Army Spc. Kelita Baskin, 22, had just returned from a seven-month assignment in Afghanistan when she landed at a school in Louisiana on a happy assignment. She only had 10 days at home and wanted to make this moment special.

Baskin was only 20 when his mother died of cancer, leaving five younger siblings to help raise him. Her bond with her siblings is extremely close and she joined the army to give them a better life.

Surprisingly, she told her siblings, who were living with their aunt while she was away, that her return home had been delayed. Then she turned to a former high school teacher for a happy shock. She first picked up her sister in middle school, then her brother in high school, then together they went to elementary school attended by three siblings and a cousin.

For Hilburn, it was the first military meeting in the halls of his school. She managed to get the four children out of the class without arousing suspicion.

As Baskin might have done in her job as a military police officer, she hid until the opportune moment, then turned the corner.

"I had to stop myself from crying," she said. "It was so good to see them." And she was overwhelmed by their size. “They overwhelm me. I will be the smallest of my siblings."

The children ran towards her, hugging each other and unable to hold back their tears. The reunion was emotional not only for his family, but also for fellow students, faculty, and administrators. "We always talk about how our school is a family," Hilburn said. "Watching a meeting just squeezes your heart."

Additionally, it allowed the students to learn more about the military and show their appreciation for Baskin. "I was excited because the kids were talking about her and I had never met her," Hilburn said. "It really inspires them to want to serve."

The videos show spouses, children and others going about their daily lives…and walking with their loved ones, with lots of screaming, tears and hugs. Some are quite creative, like a dad dressed as Spider-Man or a warm welcome from family and crowds in Atlanta. Others are smaller but just as sincere, like a veteran who surprises his grandparents at Thanksgiving.

While many meetings take place in schools, others take place in homes, airports, and even large celebrations such as graduations.

Army Sergeant Hugh Davis, who returned with about 100 other soldiers from a second deployment to Kuwait, surprised his three children with a big event at Fort Bliss, Texas, a homecoming that brought both joy and anxiety.
